Passengers are not Sardines
Too many charter boat operations are about squeezing as many passengers as they can into their boats. While this looks good from a business perspective on paper, we believe that in the long run our customers will appreciate the extra space, comfort and personal attention we provide. Staff credentials All of our employees are trained in First Aid, Oxygen Administration and CPR at a minimum. Further they have all attained the Certification of Dive Master through a widely recognized and respected agency (PADI NAUI or IANTD) as well as reaching the AAUS's standards for Science Diver through an institution (FSU or Texas A&M) that has reciprocity with NOAA. Most importantly of all; every employee loves to dive and that is how we spend our free time, even the crusty old Captain. We feel that these traits set us apart from all of the other area charters and we think you will notice the difference when you dive with us.
Spearfishing
Spearfishing is one of the oldest methods of gathering meat, and is still one of the most humane. There is ZERO by-catch from an experienced and ethical spearfishing diver, meaning the impact on the fish stock is smaller, due to the high level of selectivity for spearing as a gear type.
If it were easy then all the commercial fishing boats would be using spear guns when they go out instead of longlines or hook and line gear, but it is far easier to trick a fish into eating than to stalk, kill and retain it.
Since the idea of divers with spearguns makes some other divers uneasy we offer separate charters for those wishing to solely spearfish. We do allow spearguns on regular trips as long as there are no objections from the rest of the charter. Non spearing divers will get to make the call and there comfort will always carry precedence.
The Captain and crew reserve the right to prohibit any passenger from spearing at anytime for either not having enough experience or engaging in unethical behavior. As stewards of our marine resource we only shoot what we eat and that is our expectation for all customers as well.
